I hoped I could get more help by my colleagues, the direction of two schools that I have been working until now. And I would be happy if I had more social activities that could help me improve Dutch and connections I could have in this society.

Hi! My name is Derya. I have been living here in Belgium for almost 5 years now and I can say that I did not choose the easy way. My family and I, my husband and my three children came to Belgium for political reasons. After learning French and Dutch in B2 level I decided to work as an English teacher in a Highschool in Brussels. While being a full time teacher is not easy at all I decided to also continue Verkorte Educative Bachelor voor Secundair Onderwijs in Odisee Hogeschool. I was a full time teacher of English, I was a student and a mother of three children 12, 9 and 7 years old. I had so much to do that most of the time I was exhausted. But I can say that I was determined to learn the system how it works in Smartschool, meetings, students and everything I had to do. I can say that it wasn't easy at all. There were time I was about to give up but than after a few hours of sadness I went back to my dream of being a teacher that knows the system. It was the job that I could do for 20 years in Albania and Turkey, why shouldn't it work here? Last year I could manage to finish the first year at the Hogeschool and now I am about to graduate from Odisee. This is my second year as a teacher and I am happy I succeeded.
